If You Are The Victim of Sexual Assault in New Jersey New Statutes Extend The Time to File Suit!

In New Jersey, the ability to file a lawsuit for sexual assault depends on specific timelines established by law:

      1.    Child Victims: Survivors of childhood sexual abuse can file a lawsuit until they turn 55 or within seven years of discovering the harm caused by the abuse, whichever is later.

      2.    Adult Victims: Adult survivors have seven years from the date of the assault or seven years from discovering the harm to file a claim.

      3.    Look-Back Window: A special two-year window (from December 1, 2019, to November 30, 2021) allowed survivors of any age to file lawsuits regardless of when the abuse occurred. This window is now closed.

Consulting an experienced attorney is crucial to assess your case and ensure you file within the applicable deadlines. Contact Bidlingmaier & Bidlingmaier for your free consultation!
